Compare Embrace to Pets Best Pet Health Insurance
When looking at pet insurance coverage from Pets Best Pet Health Insurance, be careful which policy level you select as lower levels exclude coverage for things like exam fees and complementary treatments*. In addition, Pets Best Pet Health Insurance restricts coverage for pets with certain conditions, only offering these pets an accident-only policy, and doesn't offer coverage for treatment of parasites. Finally, while Pets Best Pet Health Insurance offers a wellness plan, it has itemized limits so you'll struggle to get the full value each year.

19 Reasons to Consider Embrace over Pets Best Pet Health Insurance
1. Pets Best Pet Health Insurance has Itemized Limitations for Wellness Plans
Any leftover funds in their set categories are lost if they’re not used. Plus, only one of their two wellness offerings reimburse for spaying or neutering.
Embrace promotes, rewards, and encourages healthy pets by offering Wellness Rewards, an optional non-insurance product that reimburses for everyday veterinary, grooming, and training costs with no itemized limits. And our wellness covers all the same things no matter which annual limit you select.
2. Embrace Offers One Comprehensive Policy
Pets Best Pet Health Insurance has several policy options to pick from, and the lower-level policies exclude coverage for exam fees and complementary treatments*. With so many options, it can be difficult to find what’s best for furry friends. Embrace offers one simple yet comprehensive policy that covers every unexpected accident and illness and all treatment plan options.
3. Pets Best Pet Health Insurance Doesn’t Cover Internal & External Parasites
Pets Best Pet Health Insurance will not cover treatment for fleas, heartworm, lice, ticks, and other internal or external parasites whether a pet is on preventative medicine or not. Embrace does not exclude coverage for preventable internal or external parasites no matter when they happen to your pet.
4. Pets Best Pet Health Insurance Doesn’t Reimburse Exam Fees on Every Policy
Pets Best Pet Health Insurance does not include the exam fee in their reimbursement unless a policy that includes their “Office Visits/Examination Fees” coverage is selected at a higher cost. Visiting an emergency hospital, or even going to a scheduled visit at a primary veterinarian or a veterinary specialist, can include an expensive exam fee – sometimes well over $100. Not having coverage for these fees is like having to pay an extra deductible at every visit. Embrace believes that this fee should be covered on every policy.
5. Embrace Doesn’t Charge Extra for Complementary Treatments
Pets Best Pet Health Insurance doesn’t cover complementary treatments* like acupuncture or chiropractic care on every policy. To get coverage for these treatments, a policy that includes their “Rehabilitation, Acupuncture, and Chiropractic Care” coverage would have to be purchased at an additional cost. Embrace includes complementary treatments* on every policy at no extra cost.
6. Embrace Offers More Coverage Options for Pets with Diabetes, Cushing’s, FeLV/FIV
Pets Best Pet Health Insurance does not allow pets who have been diagnosed with or who have shown symptoms of Addison’s disease, Cushing's disease, diabetes, cancer, feline leukemia, or feline immunodeficiency virus to have illness coverage – they are eligible for an accident-only plan. Embrace does not exclude these pets from getting a full accident and illness insurance policy, but pre-existing condition exclusions do apply.
7. Embrace Requires Less Medical History to Process Claims
Pets Best Pet Health Insurance requires 18 months of a pet’s medical records to process claims. Embrace only needs the last 12 months of records, or for new pets, records back to the first visit you’ve had with them.
8. Pets Best Pet Health Insurance Doesn’t Review Medical Records Before Claim Time
Pets Best Pet Health Insurance does not offer any review of pet’s medical records at enrollment, leaving it to be done when the first claim is filed. Embrace offers you an optional Medical History Review. If your pet has any pre-existing conditions, this review will let you know how they could affect your coverage moving forward.
9. Pets Best Pet Health Insurance has Dental Cleaning Requirements for Coverage
Pets Best Pet Health Insurance requires that pets over the age of three have a dental cleaning within 13 months of the policy start date to qualify for dental coverage. Embrace has no dental cleaning requirement at any age to qualify for dental illness coverage.
10. Change Coverage Anytime with Embrace
Pets Best Pet Health Insurance allows customers to make increases to coverage at renewal. Embrace allows our pet parents to make changes to their policy at any time of the year, provided they understand any effects it might have on their coverage.
11. Embrace has a Flexible Policy for Altering Coverage
Pets Best Pet Health Insurance requires that a policy be fully canceled to add one of their supplementary coverages (aka riders). With Embrace, you can make changes to your policy without canceling your existing coverage.
12. Embrace Covers Preventable Conditions Without Additional Requirements
Pets Best Health Pet Insurance requires vaccines and preventatives in order for a pet to be covered for a preventable condition – unless your vet says they can’t do them. If not, anything preventable by vaccine and preventative isn’t covered. Embrace does not require vaccines and preventatives for pets to be covered for preventable diseases.
13. Embrace Allows More Time to Submit Claims
Pets Best Pet Health Insurance requires that claims be submitted within 180 days of the office visit. Embrace gives you your entire policy term, plus 60 days after it renews, to submit your claims.
14. Embrace’s Reimbursement Method Gives More Money Back on Claims
Pets Best Pet Health Insurance calculates claims differently than Embrace, subtracting the co-pay off the claimed amount first and then subtracting the deductible, which leads to 7%-10% lower reimbursement for claims under $1,000. Embrace calculates claim reimbursements by first subtracting the deductible and then taking off the co-pay.
15. Embrace Offers Coverage for Pets Involved in Organized Racing
Pets Best Pet Health Insurance will not cover injury or illness that a pet sustains while racing. As long as you let us know that your pet is involved in organized racing at the start of your plan or when they become involved in racing, Embrace will cover them.
16. Pets Best Pet Health Insurance Restricts “Cruciate Events” from Their Accident-only Policy
Pets Best Pet Health Insurance doesn’t cover any “cruciate event” under their accident-only policy, including torn cruciates that happened due to an accident. As long as the cruciate event isn’t an illness, Embrace has no limitations for what is covered under our accident-only policy.
17. Pets Can Get Covered Sooner with Embrace
Pets Best Pet Health Insurance does not insure pets under seven weeks old. Embrace allows you to begin coverage for pets at six weeks old so that you can get them covered sooner.
18. Pets Best Pet Health Insurance Doesn’t Cover Pets Internationally
Pets Best Pet Health Insurance’s policy only covers pets in the United States, Puerto Rico, and Canada. Embrace covers your pet wherever you travel, even when traveling internationally.
19. Embrace Pet Insurance Doesn’t Require a Claim Form When You Submit Through MyEmbrace
When you submit a claim through MyEmbrace, Embrace doesn’t require a claim form – you simply fill in the questions online and send pictures of the invoice.
